Marv’s philosophy is to create images that are strong graphically and are able to evoke emotion from the viewer.  His photographic career began in New York working in the music industry.  Marv photographed album covers, studio sessions, and pictures for Teen magazines.  He soon moved to California and attended Brooks Institute of Photography in Santa Barbara earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts.  He was recruited to work in Texas for a high profile portrait studio associated with Neiman Marcus, traveling throughout the region on assignments.

In 1980, he returned to San Diego to start his own business.  In addition to shooting, he has taught photography at San Diego City College for many years, UCSD Extension and The Design Institute.  Formerly, a docent at the Museum of Photographic Arts (MOPA) in Balboa Park where he supported it’s activities.

His personal work includes People, Places, and Things in a series of images that sees our world through his lens. While using composition as an important element for these pictures, we see that light plays a significant part, whether in sunlight, open shade or manmade, to enhance the view.

His current work will be on exhibit in October, 2025 at GALLERY 21, in Spanish Village.
