INFRA RED - LANDSCAPES

Beyond Visible Light

Throughout the known Universe, energy in the form of waves is actually variations of the same phenomenon.

These waves are ordered from radio waves, microwaves, Infrared (invisible heat), whose waves are longer than light, and the best – the visible spectrum. Which allows us to see in color. This is broken down into Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, and Violet frequencies. All other colors are a mixture of these colors.  Then the spectrum continues with ultraviolet, X-rays, and finally nuclear energy that produces Gamma Rays.

Some animals can use Infrared, Ultraviolet, sonar, or radar to sense their environment. We use it for thermal imaging, tracking humans and animals with night vision cameras.

The digital camera has an infrared filter for the CCD, rendering a nice scene in black and white on the led.

THRESHOLD GUARDIANS

ARTIST STATEMENT:

This series of images deals with the transition of Life to Death. The concept of a ritualized burial brings in thoughts of immortality and rebirth. Many religions try to grasp the concept of Death, which is beyond perception.

Christianity, the world’s most numerous religion, has a straightforward path to Salvation. The concept of Heaven and Hell in the Old Testament is given short shrift. Treated more like a waiting area, purgatory, before meeting God. It’s in the New Testament that things really get going. The concepts of Original Sin and Salvation lose their metaphor and become codified. In Voodoo, a monotheistic religion, the dead can become zombies before joining the Universal Life Force. Egyptian religion had the deceased’s heart weighed, before passing Judgement on the Soul. Eternity, in Judeo-Christian beliefs, is similar to the Hindu religion, where a cycle of Death and Rebirth is proposed, and spiritual enlightenment will eventually release you from this cycle. Like a raindrop falling into the sea, to become one with the Universe.  Remember the opposite of Death is Birth; Life has no opposite.
