Marv
Sloben is a freelance photographer specializing in the built environment.
He provides services for architects, designers, contractors and
product manufacturers. His photographs have appeared in National
and local magazines, corporate brochures, advertising and award
presentations.
Marv's
philosophy is to create images that are strong graphically and are
able to communicate a particular message that has visual impact
and inspire viewers. His photographic career began in New York working
in the music industry. Marv shot album covers, studio sessions and
pictures for Teen magazines. He soon moved to California and attended
Brooks Institute of Photography in Santa Barbara earning a Bachelor
of Fine Arts. He was recruited to work in Texas for a high profile
portrait studio associated with Nieman Marcus, travelling throughout
the region on assignments. Marv then became a photographer for the
State of Florida, Department of Commerce, shooting a variety of
pictures for tourism and government, publicizing events in the State.
In
1980, he returned to San Diego to start his own business. In addition
to making pictures, he has taught photography at U.C.S.D. Extension
and The Design Institute. In his spare time he is a docent at the
Museum of Photographic Arts, in Balboa Park, where he lectures on
current exhibits.
